It is with great pride that I introduce myself as the new
principal of Copper Basin K-8. I am honored to join your community for the
second half of the 2016-2017 school year. Prior to joining FUSD, I served as a
middle school science and social studies teacher, Dean of Students, and assistant
principal. This is my fourth year in the Florence Unified School District,
where I worked as an assistant principal at Skyline Ranch K-8 and Circle Cross
Ranch Stem Academy. I believe children have a greater respect for their teachers,
their peers, and the lessons presented when they feel safe and sure of what is
expected of them. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill the love of
learning in our students, as I share my own passion for learning with them.
Hi, I’m Christine Burnett. I
have been in administration for 2 years, and in education for 12 years.
Prior to that I was a Preschool Teacher and a Children’s Librarian back in
Iowa. I am a graduate of the University of Iowa with a B.A. in History in
1993, and Teacher Certification from Rio Salado College in 2005. I obtained my
Master’s in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University in 2014,
and after two years at Skyline Ranch K-8 as Master Teacher, returned home as
Assistant Principal here at Copper Basin K-8, where I had been a primary
teacher for 8 years. I believe all children are capable of learning, and
that excellent instruction and assessment by teachers drive that instruction.
I believe in working until the task is completed, and that resilience is what
has placed me here at FUSD. I am a product of public schools, and I
firmly believe that all children deserve the best education no matter
what. They are the future.
I am happily married to my
high-school sweetheart of 29 years this May, Jeff. We have a daughter,
Madison who will turn 21 this spring. She is a Junior at ASU majoring in
Film and Media Production with an emphasis in Sound Post Production. She
works part time for a wedding cinematography business in Gilbert as a COO,
videographer and editor. She is our pride and joy! We enjoy TV,
Film, hiking and trips to California and the beach as a family.
| I earned a B.A in
Sociology from University of Arizona. I also

Certificate in Educational Leadership, Coolidge Chamber of Commerce 2011 A+
School Employee Award, and received several awards while teaching.
